The bed
Rows go hot from the toe, never from the photograph.
A lettuce bed does not fail in the middle first. The outer row burns, fog hold dies, and the field still looks even from the road. Faces fail the same way on Gabilan.
We dust chalk across a known radius comb and read where the face refuses the powder. That pale band is a hot toe row. Spreckels afternoons accelerate it because valley dust files the toe while the trunk is still shut from a Hartnell round.
If the toe is pale and the heel still holds chalk, the face is two beds. We will not recut the living half as a kindness to the dead half. Ynez marks the toe as retire and the heel as leave.
Players who want one bulge number for the whole head are asking the plat to average a burn with a cool row. The beds do not do that.
